My official HD parts book lists the rocker arms to have numbers 17360-66a for the rear exhaust and front intake and number 17375-66a for the front exhaust and rear intake. These numbers are not the same as the ones I have. ...Not being one to leave well enough alone, or at least not to let a good running stock bike alone, I started looking for a new exhaust system. My.Fiddlin' with the Sporty today I noticed something... The flange that holds the rear exhaust pipe/coupling at the rear head is loose. Really loose.I just found some used Python III slip-ons on craigslist. They have a few scratches and are used (apparently) for only $30. They were on a '08 sporty.Its apparent to me, that the later model bikes are not being detailed in the traditional harley style, such as the butt ugly exhaust on the F that wraps around the engine, key relocated to the Asian bike position to make a nice eye sore ...I have read on this site that true dual exhaust systems have no back pressure, so you lose some torque and horsepower. Ok, I wrote an introduction to this quesiton that was longer than some books, so I just started over because otherwise I'd never get any answers 'cause the intro was longer than the freaking question itself. I'll try to keep it "to the point", but I have always had trouble with that. I ramble. I'm a rambler and I rant. I'm a ranter, putting in millions of details that have nothing to due with the topic. OK - my dad buys his second motorcycle as he is wanting to get into riding. I have been riding every year weather permitting for 13 year and I know my way around a bike pretty good. I have never owned a harley davidson, only Yamaha's and kawasaki's. The first bike my dad bought was a Kawasaki. He's been taking riding lessons from me for free, and he also signed up for a course at our local community college that is taught by guys who've been riding for centuries, and they'll teach him things that even I don't know. So one day we are driving and there's a sparkling clean sportster (1200 XLH) sitting on the side of the road ("for sale sign clearly visible"). I call the number and offer the guy $3000 as it's a 1990 and has 15,000 miles on it, although the bike is FLAWLESS and loaded with aftermarket shiny things, although all moving parts are stock. He accepts. I tell him that it's actually my dad who is interested and I'll have him call back later. He does, and sets up a test ride (to be performed by me) the next day. We go, I ride (I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS wear a helmet), but I didn't on this test ride because I had to be able to hear EVERYTHING IN THE ENGINE, ETC. So I ride for about 10 minutes and the bike is in such incredible condition I just can't believe it. I report back and dad agrees to buy it on the spot. The next day he pays the guy and get's the temp tag and insures it. Tonight I went down and picked it up. While we were in the guys large and spotless garage, fully equipped with about 10 motorcycles, 3 cars, and 4 toolbenches, I didn't see the expected accompanyment of tool kits. So I figure he outsources his maintainence. Ok. I turn the fuel switch to "on" from "off", and all of a sudden the bike is literally purging the entire tank of gas out of what appears to be a 1/4 inch rubber hose that someone had threaded between those iconic thin metal bars that run vertically from the crankcase up each side of the cylinders. The hose STARTS at the bottom of the air filter, although I don't thing it has anything to do with it and runs up direcly to the "OFF/ON/RESERVE" switch. So I quickly switch it off, and it stops leaking. The seller is horrified because he's already been paid and we haven't even taken possession yet, 2. The bike didn't do this when I rode it the day before, and 3. his dog bit my dad in the ass when he went over to pay him (and my dad is a lawyer, "bad combination of events"). So we spend 40 minutes trying to figure out first of all what the hell that hose is anyway.... Why is it now leaking fuel copiously, and was it originally connected to something else? did it become disconnected? Next I decide "ok, let's take it just outside of the garage, fire it up with the switch on "off", then turn it "on", which we did, and it still pissed fuel all over the ground. By this time I'd removed it from it's previous position up against the base of the outside of the lower part of the block (too hot for rubber hose, obviously), and I'd zip-tied it so it wouldn't touch the exhaust either. Ok, WTF!!!!???? So, in a last ditch attempt to just GET IT HOME, I decided to clamp it off. Between the 2 of us we decided to use a paper clamp (not clip, CLAMP), those black things with the little silver handles to open and close them that can be used to pinch other people for fun at the office. We also screwed a screw of slightly larger diameter than the inside of the hose into the end of it, and...... drumroll... IT STILL LEAKED, SOMEHOW, but to a lesser degree. He followed me home and the performance of the bike was severely compromised. I had to keep it revved at stop signs and it felt like it was missing on one of the cylinders occasionally. SO: WHAT IS THIS HOSE, WHAT IS IT'S PURPOSE, AND WHAT'S IT SUPPOSED TO DO? IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE HOOKED TO SOMETHING? IF SO, WHAT? PLEASE. I WILL RECANT ALL MY YEARS OF RIDING JAP BIKES IF SOMEONE WILL PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. Otherwise, I'm going to have to pay someone to do it and they might die of laughter from how stupid I am that I couldn't figure it out on my own. This bike is beautiful and I'm really hoping that it doesn't reinforce the rumor that Harley's are hanger queens (which is the only reason I hadn't bought one myself prior to this bike). I know that there is someone out there who can answer this in the blink of an eye. Also the oil/filter and plugs haven't been changed in friggin' trillions of years so I'm going to do that as soon as I can get the right plugs for it. I bought a case of 4 cycle bike oil about 3 years ago and I still haven't
used it all, so this oil change should finish it off. That maintainence I can do myself, but if I end up having to take the bike to my mechanic to have this hose thing figured out, I'll just have them change the plugs/oil/filter. Well, that about does it. If I remember anything else I'll post an update. Thank you all in advance for your help. Ok basically me and some friends installed a new short ram intake with a nice filter and a new exhaust and 3a racing muffler. My car sounds louder than a fucking harley davidson and actually sounds great not like a fart cannon P.O.S. Ohhh yea and some new Platinum +4 spark plugs. I haven't told my parents yet and I want to try and be quiet should I drive down the hill on the way home and not hit the gas at all? or should I tell them and take the punishment if there is any. I think my dad might drive it tomorrow so should I just tell him I put a tip on it or what?

i've seen tons of regular plain old iron 883's out there for sale but im looking to buy one with some minor custom work. im looking for something with drag bars for sure and not stock exhaust. but other than that stock or would it just be better for me to buy a new one and put those on myself i guess i'd rather just go the easy way.
Wondering if I did this, which would change the exhaust, if I would need to get the bike recalibrated. I'm wanting a little bit more sound out of my bike as the reason for possibly doing it. Is there any chance that doing this could have negative effects on my bike? Thanks

I have a 2003 f150 harley davidson truck. It has the supercharged 5.4L engine. I already have the K&N filter and am working on the exhaust system but want to get a programmer first. I have been looking it the edge evo and diablo predator. I will run the 93 octane performance program all the time and am not too worried about gas. I just want performance. If yall have any personal experience with either or any different programmers, any information will be greatly appreciated.

Just bought a 2008 HD 1200 sportster. I don't care for the stock exhaust and love the "Screaming Eagle II" that some of the neighbors run. However, they don't make them any longer. Does anyone know of something sounding close to these. I am told the new "Screaming Eagle I" does not even compare. The "Python" is way too loud.

There are thousands of motorcycles in San Diego alone and this stupid "Harley Davidson" drivers with the so call 'screamer eagle' exhaust pipes driving down the streets making so much decibels that hurt people ear drums to the point of giving a headache, imagine what is doing to the little babies ears?! This is so inconsiderate I think the second hand smoke from a cigarette is just as bad to the little ones. I can not express in words except for maybe @^&(*%)+# sons of #&*@!+'s that want to feel like men but can't they are just noise makers no good for %&*$t. What do you think?!.

I just bought and picked up my 2009 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom in blue pearl. Now after about 500 miles i'm going to change the stock pipe. I'm considering the V&H Big Radius 2 to 2 pipes. There going to run me about $650 but I like the slick style and the sharp ends. Right now i'm content witht the power, but i want to crank up the volume and get that mean badass harley sound. With a Screamin Eagle heavy breather, and some V&H Big Radius 2 to 2 pipes will the bike be rumbling.... I also plan to put 12.5" mini apes on the bike which i'll probablu do before anything but Right now those 3 things are as far as my budget goes. I know you can buy fuel packs etc but I'm limited to what I can spend. So with a Screamin Eagle heavy breather, V&H Big radius, and some mini apes will that fit well on the bike? Any suggestions? Mabe forget the heavy breather and add a fuel pack or something like that, IDk help me out....
Just wondering if the Screamin' Eagle has a deep thunderous rumble sound or if it's a more high-pitched popping sound, kind of like a machine gun. Thanks!!!

I have access to a set of Harley Davidson Screaming Eagle Exhaust.. but Im not sure if it will fit on a V-Star 650
Not referring to that bolt on abortion designed for the European market. I mean Dual carbs, forward facing exhaust, etc, like they did in '83? There is such a demand, even a bolt on kit would be hugely well received. They didn't sell well then because people were too blown away by obscenely fast Rice rockets. Mert Lawill produces a limited number at a resultingly high price. Baisley heads toy with the idea- with good results, from what I have heard- but still, after all these years, nothing substantial and affordable.
Ninebad, we all know that one as being the most obvious answer but I was referring to an American Icon, for better or worse and something that is a great deal of fun to drive in spite of everything else. Remember that when you don't have an icon you must resort to any 'cheap' trick in mass production, not that this is necessarily an easy or meaningless thing to achieve- something that has even extended into Harley clones. I merely think that an American V-twin is sweet, for its' own sake and wouldn't mind some obvious, been-around-for-a-while upgrade that is much desired to happen some time.
By all means ride your Japanese motorcycles.

I have a 2008 nightster, and have added screaming eagle exhaust and air intake. i was told i will probably have to have it tuned for the bike to work properly. Has anyone used the efi tuner from hd? how easy is it to use? Does it work good? Any other brands that would work as well?

Cranks up and runs fine cold, but when it gets warmed up it runs very rough (kind of like a harley davidson) the check engine light comes on and black smoke comes out of the exhaust. I replaced the entire exhaust system, as well as put in a K&N air filter. Please help. Is it the computer? What's going on with this?

I have a 06' Harley Davidson Night Train with the 88 cubic inch and 5-speed trany, with only 2,834 miles on it. so far I installed a Thunder Header exhaust and a power commander and a after market air filter .I want to install some high performance parts in the engine (internal parts) what is the best cam to install in a 88 cubic inch Harley motor?

I started to listen to a song on the radio (classic rock genre) and a song came on. For various reasons, I couldn't listen to the song. But it started with only a drummer drumming what sounded to be a hot rod or a Harley engine. (you know, the real deep "potato potato potato" exhaust). I had heard the song before, meant to remember it b/c I liked it, then forgot.

the American Motorcycle association reported that the Oakland California police department has decided to equip each of it's 45 harley davidson motorcycles with after market exhaust systems. Most of the officers complained that they do not "feel safe" on the quiet new bikes. So the new exhaust systems are now rated at 93 decibels, well above the mandatory stock 80 decibels (federal limit) and illegal under California state law as well.

I had a gal in a cage right beside me, with my front wheel even with her front door as she was slowly passing me on the right. She had her cell phone to her left ear,blocking her vision. She drifted right over into me. Almost the exact situation occurred after I replaced my stock slipons with louder ones. But this time I was passing her, she had no doubt at all that I was beside her and corrected back into her lane instantly. But "sound" isn't the only reason I change pipes on my bikes. Improved MPG, more HP, and less heat, as well as burning cleaner are just a few reasons why.

My mini bike is really loud and the exhaust tips are not whats causing it, i have a 2003 harley davidson mini bike and i have taken off the exhaust pipes to try and quiet it down and it hasn't worked. It's the engine and i dont know how to make it more quiet. Anything you can mix with the gas mixture?

what is the mpg for a big Harley Davidson, not that it matters, the exhaust note compensates for all, but just out of curiosity, what's the mpg for a tourer Harley....or any Harley with an engine around the 1500 mark.
im looking for a loud exhaust system for my car. I want it to be loud. I don't want it to be annoying loud like those big fat exhaust pipes that teenagers put on. I want an exhaust system thyat is loud and that sounds like i have a hemi in it. I like the exhaust sounds from like the new strong mustangs, or harley davidson f-150 and a bunch of others. exhaust manifolds
Anyone know where I might find a pair of center dumps with the T4 style flange or the like. In the interest of hood clearance I would like to replace.Exhaust manifolds. again, different depending on models, but seem to have a slight advantage over previous engines. looks like they spread a bit more, as well as clearer ports and possibly larger midpipes than the older hemi's." ...I can't find anywhere about the limits of a stock 2g exhaust manifold. I have a 350 V8 that has a heat riser on the exhaust. I need to replace the exhaust manifold but the bolts are too short on the new manifold so was wanting to know if it was necessary to replace the heat riser when I put the new manifold in or can I leave the riser out. Will it be detrimental?

I have a 91' toyota pickup, I have no power when its being driven in 2nd or 3rd gear, my exhaust manifold will start glowing red, what do I need to do to fix it?
ok 99 Nissan Maxima, auto, 3.0 v-6. 143k, has been skipping for along time now at first only noticeable at stop signs/lights in gear, so i would put in neutral and it would stop. Year or so ago..I replaced spark plugs with OE Platinum NGKS skipping seemed to go away for a few months. Then came back :(
Brought it back to shop and they said my rear valve cover gasket was leaking and that could possibly be causing the the plugs to foul or something? Well at the time i didn't have the money to fix so just let it go for months.
This past July i took it in for state inspection and apparently that valve cover gasket leak was dripping oil onto my exhaust manifold in which could create a fire so in order to get sticker needed it replaced! So had them do the job and change some other gaskets while they were in there too. Got the car back the next day still skipping. They suggested i change the plugs again at that time too but I just didn't have the extra money.
Well needless to say i drove it for 1 day after the gasket/state inspection got done and it was smoking under hood so I called the garage up that did the work and they said most likely it was oil still burning off from the gasket replacement..So i just went with it and continued driving. Day 2 BAM!!! I was getting waved over by a car in front of me driving telling me to pull over and my car was on fire!!!!!! I pulled over fire department came et etc..fire was under car..turned out to be i blew my transmission (no other damage from fire)! BUT Never had any trans problem up until like 5 minutes before i was being told my car was on fire and the problem I noticed before hand was when taking off from stop sign car was very very hesitant...like didn't want to move. but did, then 2 miles down the road fire happened. would've started before i don't know. Had towed back to same shop that had been working on it and they said my trans fluid must have been low and something inside got dry and let loose and blew a hole through transmission..so replaced trans with one from salvage yard last month 105k. So odd because like i said i had no trans issues ever just this SKIP at idle in gear at stops. So just to be extra safe I went ahead replaced spark plugs and all coils (6) coil on plug..$$FORTUNE..Also replaced fuel filter..
OK now what the heck it is still SKIPPING!!!! This skip is ONLY when at operating temperature. When cold runs great and no skip! full power! Also have noticed when taking off from stop car is a little hesitant until it hits that second gear..and honestly the longer the drive the worse the skipping and hesitation gets when taking off from stops..I don't get it???? Even been running 92 octane gas..
I have sunk so much money into this car I can't afford to be paying more shops to not figure this out. I am looking here and hoping for some ideas on what this could be im at my wits end. PLEASE HELP!!! SORRY SO LONG but figured a lot of detail would be best!

My 1997 Camaro Convertible RS v6 3800 series II engine seems to be really loud. I think it might be an exhaust flange leak. Because when working on it, I had broken one of the two bolts holding the exhaust flange to the ex manifold (on both flanges, I had broken one bolt off each). So now the exhaust flanges are being held up by one bolt on each manifold instead of two.
I am wondering if that could cause an irregularly loud engine, and a significant loss in power and gas mileage.
P.S. What I was working on is removing one of the cyl heads to take it to the machine shop and then re-installing it. This had involved of course taking out the ex manifold. If that makes a difference

Recently, this car has had a head gasket replacement about 4 weeks ago. She ran fine and everything (high revs, small drives). Until tonight where I started her the first time today she started leaking antifreeze through the exhaust manifolds right away! Antifreeze kept spewing out of the manifold to the exhaust clamp. *(no leaks from the manifold to the block).
I thought the head gasket blew again or a cracked head. Well, there is no water in the oil, the oil is fine. The temp is normal.
*TRICKY PART*
Started her again about 10 mins later, NO LEAKS! Nothing! No white smoke from the exhaust and she ran fine. I only let her stay at idle for 2 min.
WHAT IN THE HELL HAPPENED? I am so confused.
Remember, she was a cold block and first time started it, it was leaking. So it doesn't need to warm up if she cracked or blew a gasket running cold.
and still have back pressure and be sound legal. i need a cheap muffler and i need 2 of them. reall cheap sbc 350 crate engine 1972 k20 chevy lifted 4x4. wanting to run them infront of the trasfercase... possible. trucks straight pipe and i keep getting tickets. whats the cheapest way to quiet it down

The front bolt to the exhaust manifold has come out because the bolt hole was stripped out. The exhaust manifold leaks and is noisy. How can i rethread the hole in the engine block so it will hold a bolt to keep the exhaust manifold from leaking??

Just finished up installing my cylinder head and intake manifold as well as fuel rail on my 1993 Toyota Camry 2.2L. Installed the intake camshaft as well. I was ready to install the exhaust camshaft, but read online about the service bolt as well as in the manual, but the manual never stated why it was necessary. After further reading online it stated that the service bolt prevents the gears from unwinding and causing the cam to be out of time when removed. When I removed the camshafts I never placed a service bolt in the exhaust camshaft (should have now!). I never noticed the cam unwinding when I removed it from the cylinder head. I had the cylinder head and both cams to a machine shop for reconditioning. After carefully looking at the exhaust cam now I notice the do line up, but there is hole and something line a pin that are a off a bit out of alignment. Does the pin and hole have to line up? Looks like it would fit if the one gear was turned about 1/8 turn or so.
Wondering if anyone here has and answer to this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the pipe that comes off the exhaust manifold get red on my z24 cavilier?
I had a small puddle of oil in the indentation on the manifold the other day (right underneath the carb on the passenger side). And oil has leaked on both sides of the engine block, down to the spark plugs. I was told by someone on here that the valve cover gaskets need to be replaced. I also have a crack in the driver side exhaust manifold which I have had since I had the truck. Now I’m wondering if it is still valve cover gaskets since I found oil in the manifold. I cleaned around the edge of the manifold and I found old silicone between the manifold and engine.
I also have a pretty bad power steering leak, but it’s leaking mostly on the curb. So I am not sure of the exact location of the leak. I checked around the power steering box and I can’t find anything.
I understand it is difficult to answer mechanical questions over the internet, but I would really appreciate someone with some know-how to give me their input on this. And how much labor I’m looking at.

I had a small puddle of oil in the indentation on the manifold the other day (right underneath the carb on the passenger side). And oil has leaked on both sides of the engine block, down to the spark plugs. I was told by someone on here that the valve cover gaskets need to be replaced. I also have a crack in the driver side exhaust manifold which I have had since I had the truck. Now I’m wondering if it is still valve cover gaskets since I found oil in the manifold. The exhaust manifold is cracked, but I repaired it with JB weld and it seems to be holding.
I have a donut on it. My friend said I have to screw it up equally or one side would have a leak. I was wondering is that true? And also I can't see if its is equal. Is there a easy way to screw it up?

Okay, I've got a 1996 Dodge Ram B5200 van, 5.2L V8. I pulled the Y-pipe off a 1994, and put it on my van.
It was a snug fit, but air is leaking where the y-pipe bolts to the manifolds. Quite a bit, too. What are my options? I don't believe there is a donut gasket available for these.

I think I'm gonna rebuild my Chevy 350 small black with these components. This will be a performance motor that will be driven on the street as well as raced at the strip. How much horsepower and torque do u estimate this would make? Also is there anything special I will have 2 accommodate for? Due to all the performance parts. Also what size carburetor would work best on this? I found a good deal on either a 650 or 750 cfm (i can't remember which) and was wondering if maybe 750 would be too large since it will be driven on the street.

I bought a used car about a week and a half ago and it has a crack in the exhaust manifold and have been told that it will not be able to pass smog if i got it checked. I also heard that a dealer cannot sale you a car if it cannot pass smog and that I am legally able to get a refund. Is this true?

Is it the rear exhaust manifold that leads to the flexpipe? Im not saying my brother is correct or wrong, but he says my 92 LT! corvette has egr , and i said no it doesn't it has air. Then he told me he see's it on the exhaust manifolds. I believe its air. I went to look for headers, and for the 91 L98 engine, it has egr and air, and the 92 has just air?
i have a 1989 ford f-250 4x4 extended cab and its motor family is the windsor make. what in the hell would cause both right and left manifolds to completely crack all the way around. if i took them off i would have 4 pieces... never seen before in cast iron manifolds know anyone who has a set? thanks..
Okay, exhaust manifold bolts have been broken off in the cylinder head. I know they havet to be drilled out maybe even retapped. It's in a 95 Silverado and it's a 350. Should I take the head off or try and do it while it's still on the motor?

I just bought a 1968 Pontiac firebird 400. The car still has the orignial exhaust manifold. I am wanting to make the car sound good and wondering what kind of headers I should go with I am also going with a mild cam. I don't want the car to have an outrageous noise but something very noticeable. Also wondering whats a good muffler to use. While taking the bolts out of my exhaust manifold to change the manifold gaskets I broke a few bolts off. I'm going to have to drill them out and retap them. How hard is this going to be and are there any tips you can give?
I was told my car needs a Donut Gasket.. something about it fell off the Exhaust Manifold or something. I have the 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, 2.5L Tech4.

Ok so I am looking for a 6 cylinder car. I have looked into the jetta/golf VR6, and I love the look, but their reviews are mostly negative and they seem to be pretty unreliable.
I have also looked into the honda civic, but I am 6"5, mostly in the legs, and I tried fitting in my friends 02 civic and it didn't work.
What I am looking for is a reliable 6 cylinder car that looks pretty sporty (coupe or 4 door I don't care), and that has a decent amount of room in it.

They then preceded to CUT it off instead of unbolting it which means I have to get another Y-Pipe or sleeve it.

So the instructor said that he is going to have to drill out the old bolts and re bore the exhuast bolts.
I don't want them to do anything else to it as I feel they will probably just break something else as he was talking about prying on the exhaust manifold to get the bolts back in. They/he (instructor) and the students obviously are not capable of handling such a situation so WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS?

I recently bought a 2000 Mustang. The previous owner had to inspected. The mechanic (in a small town) mentioned an exhaust leak from the midpipe just below left exhaust manifold. Said he could patch it up real cheap. Didn't get it done because I'm replacing most of the exhaust system. Took my car in for an oil change today and (for the hell of it) asked Goodyear for a quote on fixing the exhaust leak. They came back saying $500 for parts and labor. Took the car over to the muffler shop to get a custom exhaust system put on. Mentioned the exhaust leak and the guy tells me if it actually is a leak in the exhaust manifold, he'll fix it for $50. If not, all the better. Ever get the feeling your normal mechanic might be taking advantage of you?
(I plan on going to college for something vehicle related but the reputation mechanics have is kind of scary. It's worse when you see the reputation become a reality.)
@Chrys: $275 for stock exhaust manihold + $225 for labor = $500. Yes, I'm well aware of what the costs were for.
@Ironball: I'm not worried about how long the patch will hold. In the spring I plan on looking into long tube headers. I'd rather spend a little to keep it running well through the winter than to pay all that for a new header only to pay more for different headers in 6 months.
k so i have a faulty fuel pump u know sometimes it works n sometimes it doesnt. i wanna replace with a walbro 255lph pump but i wanna know if this is gonna be bad for my car i only have intake and full exhaust headers n cat back, im planning on adding a intake manifold in the future, the question is would my car be better off wit a OEM pump or with the walbro. i want a fast car and i will put a different engine in the future but for now the pump needs to be replaced

The motor is a 93 chevy 3/4 ton 5.7 TBI. On the exhaust it has the original manifolds that converge into one 3 inch pipe and go to the oxygen sensor then the catalytic converter then finally the muffler. Well I took the cats off and mufflers as well there is about 2 to 3 foot of 3 inch pipe still on there after the oxygen sensor. Which cuts off about where the bed and cab meet. Is this going to hurt anything, Its pretty loud but I like it that way. And yes I know it is illegal to take cats off but we dont have to pass emissions here and frankly I just don't care. I just want to know if it is going to hurt the motor. Thanks!
Reason I ask is some people say that if you don't have enough backpressure then your motor will warp the valves and start smoking and eventually burn your motor up. They said just to make sure to have enough pipe on there.

I have a 350 V8 that has a heat riser on the exhaust. I need to replace the exhaust manifold but the bolts are too short on the new manifold so was wanting to know if it was necessary to replace the heat riser when I put the new manifold in or can I leave the riser out. Will it be detrimental?
just got a 1998 buick regal 3.8 supercharge it had a cyl 1 misfire got that fixed and it still runs like shit. 2day was running it and the exhaust manifolds got glowing red could that be a bad egr or clogged cat. converter? it runs smooth but when giving it gas the performance is shitty

ok 99 Nissan Maxima, auto, 3.0 v-6. 143k, has been skipping for along time now at first only noticeable at stop signs/lights in gear, so i would put in neutral and it would stop. Year or so ago..I replaced spark plugs with OE Platinum NGKS skipping seemed to go away for a few months. Then came back :(
Brought it back to shop and they said my rear valve cover gasket was leaking and that could possibly be causing the the plugs to foul or something? Well at the time i didn't have the money to fix so just let it go for months.
This past July i took it in for state inspection and apparently that valve cover gasket leak was dripping oil onto my exhaust manifold in which could create a fire so in order to get sticker needed it replaced! So had them do the job and change some other gaskets while they were in there too. Got the car back the next day still skipping. They suggested i change the plugs again at that time too but I just didn't have the extra money.
Well needless to say i drove it for 1 day after the gasket/state inspection got done and it was smoking under hood so I called the garage up that did the work and they said most likely it was oil still burning off from the gasket replacement..So i just went with it and continued driving. Day 2 BAM!!! I was getting waved over by a car in front of me driving telling me to pull over and my car was on fire!!!!!! I pulled over fire department came et etc..fire was under car..turned out to be i blew my transmission (no other damage from fire)! BUT Never had any trans problem up until like 5 minutes before i was being told my car was on fire and the problem I noticed before hand was when taking off from stop sign car was very very hesitant...like didn't want to move. but did, then 2 miles down the road fire happened. would've started before i don't know. Had towed back to same shop that had been working on it and they said my trans fluid must have been low and something inside got dry and let loose and blew a hole through transmission..so replaced trans with one from salvage yard last month 105k. So odd because like i said i had no trans issues ever just this SKIP at idle in gear at stops. So just to be extra safe I went ahead replaced spark plugs and all coils (6) coil on plug..$$FORTUNE..Also replaced fuel filter..
OK now what the heck it is still SKIPPING!!!! This skip is ONLY when at operating temperature. When cold runs great and no skip! full power! Also have noticed when taking off from stop car is a little hesitant until it hits that second gear..and honestly the longer the drive the worse the skipping and hesitation gets when taking off from stops..I don't get it???? Even been running 92 octane gas..

My 1997 Camaro Convertible RS v6 3800 series II engine seems to be really loud. I think it might be an exhaust flange leak. Because when working on it, I had broken one of the two bolts holding the exhaust flange to the ex manifold (on both flanges, I had broken one bolt off each). So now the exhaust flanges are being held up by one bolt on each manifold instead of two.
I am wondering if that could cause an irregularly loud engine, and a significant loss in power and gas mileage.
P.S. What I was working on is removing one of the cyl heads to take it to the machine shop and then re-installing it. This had involved of course taking out the ex manifold. If that makes a difference

Recently, this car has had a head gasket replacement about 4 weeks ago. She ran fine and everything (high revs, small drives). Until tonight where I started her the first time today she started leaking antifreeze through the exhaust manifolds right away! Antifreeze kept spewing out of the manifold to the exhaust clamp. *(no leaks from the manifold to the block).
I thought the head gasket blew again or a cracked head. Well, there is no water in the oil, the oil is fine. The temp is normal.
*TRICKY PART*
Started her again about 10 mins later, NO LEAKS! Nothing! No white smoke from the exhaust and she ran fine. I only let her stay at idle for 2 min.
WHAT IN THE HELL HAPPENED? I am so confused.
Remember, she was a cold block and first time started it, it was leaking. So it doesn't need to warm up if she cracked or blew a gasket running cold.

The front bolt to the exhaust manifold has come out because the bolt hole was stripped out. The exhaust manifold leaks and is noisy. How can i rethread the hole in the engine block so it will hold a bolt to keep the exhaust manifold from leaking??

Just finished up installing my cylinder head and intake manifold as well as fuel rail on my 1993 Toyota Camry 2.2L. Installed the intake camshaft as well. I was ready to install the exhaust camshaft, but read online about the service bolt as well as in the manual, but the manual never stated why it was necessary. After further reading online it stated that the service bolt prevents the gears from unwinding and causing the cam to be out of time when removed. When I removed the camshafts I never placed a service bolt in the exhaust camshaft (should have now!). I never noticed the cam unwinding when I removed it from the cylinder head. I had the cylinder head and both cams to a machine shop for reconditioning. After carefully looking at the exhaust cam now I notice the do line up, but there is hole and something line a pin that are a off a bit out of alignment. Does the pin and hole have to line up? Looks like it would fit if the one gear was turned about 1/8 turn or so.
Wondering if anyone here has and answer to this.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the pipe that comes off the exhaust manifold get red on my z24 cavilier?
I had a small puddle of oil in the indentation on the manifold the other day (right underneath the carb on the passenger side). And oil has leaked on both sides of the engine block, down to the spark plugs. I was told by someone on here that the valve cover gaskets need to be replaced. I also have a crack in the driver side exhaust manifold which I have had since I had the truck. Now I’m wondering if it is still valve cover gaskets since I found oil in the manifold. I cleaned around the edge of the manifold and I found old silicone between the manifold and engine.
I also have a pretty bad power steering leak, but it’s leaking mostly on the curb. So I am not sure of the exact location of the leak. I checked around the power steering box and I can’t find anything.
I understand it is difficult to answer mechanical questions over the internet, but I would really appreciate someone with some know-how to give me their input on this. And how much labor I’m looking at.

The exhaust manifold is cracked, but I repaired it with JB weld and it seems to be holding.
I have a donut on it. My friend said I have to screw it up equally or one side would have a leak. I was wondering is that true? And also I can't see if its is equal. Is there a easy way to screw it up?

Okay, I've got a 1996 Dodge Ram B5200 van, 5.2L V8. I pulled the Y-pipe off a 1994, and put it on my van.
It was a snug fit, but air is leaking where the y-pipe bolts to the manifolds. Quite a bit, too. What are my options? I don't believe there is a donut gasket available for these.

I think I'm gonna rebuild my Chevy 350 small black with these components. This will be a performance motor that will be driven on the street as well as raced at the strip. How much horsepower and torque do u estimate this would make? Also is there anything special I will have 2 accommodate for? Due to all the performance parts. Also what size carburetor would work best on this? I found a good deal on either a 650 or 750 cfm (i can't remember which) and was wondering if maybe 750 would be too large since it will be driven on the street.

I bought a used car about a week and a half ago and it has a crack in the exhaust manifold and have been told that it will not be able to pass smog if i got it checked. I also heard that a dealer cannot sale you a car if it cannot pass smog and that I am legally able to get a refund. Is this true?

Hi all, i have a 91 3rd gen maxima and of course the exhaust is all rusted out at the back of the engine. Now, my main question is as per the title, but also how does it work? Is it the rear exhaust manifold that leads to the flexpipe? Im not saying my brother is correct or wrong, but he says my 92 LT! corvette has egr , and i said no it doesn't it has air. Then he told me he see's it on the exhaust manifolds. I believe its air. I went to look for headers, and for the 91 L98 engine, it has egr and air, and the 92 has just air?

Okay, exhaust manifold bolts have been broken off in the cylinder head. I know they havet to be drilled out maybe even retapped. It's in a 95 Silverado and it's a 350. Should I take the head off or try and do it while it's still on the motor?

I am wanting to make the car sound good and wondering what kind of headers I should go with I am also going with a mild cam. I don't want the car to have an outrageous noise but something very noticeable. Also wondering whats a good muffler to use. While taking the bolts out of my exhaust manifold to change the manifold gaskets I broke a few bolts off. I'm going to have to drill them out and retap them. How hard is this going to be and are there any tips you can give?
I was told my car needs a Donut Gasket.. something about it fell off the Exhaust Manifold or something. I have the 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, 2.5L Tech4.

Ok so I am looking for a 6 cylinder car. I have looked into the jetta/golf VR6, and I love the look, but their reviews are mostly negative and they seem to be pretty unreliable.
I have also looked into the honda civic, but I am 6"5, mostly in the legs, and I tried fitting in my friends 02 civic and it didn't work.
What I am looking for is a reliable 6 cylinder car that looks pretty sporty (coupe or 4 door I don't care), and that has a decent amount of room in it.

I have a truck that I had gotten and it needed a little work. It needed a seal in the motor and in the transmission fixed. Well, to do that they had to take off my Y-pipe because it was preventing the transmission from being dropped. They then preceded to CUT it off instead of unbolting it which means I have to get another Y-Pipe or sleeve it.
Then, for whatever reason they decided to take the exhaust manifold off of the drivers side. There was no reason for this to be done and in the process of taking it off they broke bolts off in my cylinder head and they can not get the exhaust manifold to fit back on. So the instructor said that he is going to have to drill out the old bolts and re bore the exhuast bolts.
I don't want them to do anything else to it as I feel they will probably just break something else as he was talking about prying on the exhaust manifold to get the bolts back in. They/he (instructor) and the students obviously are not capable of handling such a situation so WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT THIS?

I recently bought a 2000 Mustang. The previous owner had to inspected. The mechanic (in a small town) mentioned an exhaust leak from the midpipe just below left exhaust manifold. Said he could patch it up real cheap. Didn't get it done because I'm replacing most of the exhaust system. Took my car in for an oil change today and (for the hell of it) asked Goodyear for a quote on fixing the exhaust leak. They came back saying $500 for parts and labor. Took the car over to the muffler shop to get a custom exhaust system put on. Mentioned the exhaust leak and the guy tells me if it actually is a leak in the exhaust manifold, he'll fix it for $50. If not, all the better. Ever get the feeling your normal mechanic might be taking advantage of you?
(I plan on going to college for something vehicle related but the reputation mechanics have is kind of scary. It's worse when you see the reputation become a reality.)

@Ironball: I'm not worried about how long the patch will hold. In the spring I plan on looking into long tube headers. I'd rather spend a little to keep it running well through the winter than to pay all that for a new header only to pay more for different headers in 6 months.
k so i have a faulty fuel pump u know sometimes it works n sometimes it doesnt. i wanna replace with a walbro 255lph pump but i wanna know if this is gonna be bad for my car i only have intake and full exhaust headers n cat back, im planning on adding a intake manifold in the future, the question is would my car be better off wit a OEM pump or with the walbro. i want a fast car and i will put a different engine in the future but for now the pump needs to be replaced

The motor is a 93 chevy 3/4 ton 5.7 TBI. On the exhaust it has the original manifolds that converge into one 3 inch pipe and go to the oxygen sensor then the catalytic converter then finally the muffler. Well I took the cats off and mufflers as well there is about 2 to 3 foot of 3 inch pipe still on there after the oxygen sensor. Which cuts off about where the bed and cab meet. Is this going to hurt anything, Its pretty loud but I like it that way. And yes I know it is illegal to take cats off but we dont have to pass emissions here and frankly I just don't care. I just want to know if it is going to hurt the motor. Thanks!
Reason I ask is some people say that if you don't have enough backpressure then your motor will warp the valves and start smoking and eventually burn your motor up. They said just to make sure to have enough pipe on there.

He has mentioned before there's some things you just dont do with your wife which I think is rubbish if there's anyone you should be doing it with it's your wife!!. As a married woman theres so many things I haven't experienced that I wish I had, so many times I wish I could just say *&!% it and take the initiative but I dont. I have never spent a day in bed with my husband or woke up naked with him or been kissed properly for no reason or had any type of romance. By romance I dont mean things or flowers or any of that stuff because things like that dont fuss me terribly but it'd be nice to be complimented or feel loved or get suprised anything really....it doesn't happen. I believe I am to blame as well when we met I hadn't been with anyone and had no experience, that does not mean I am a prude, I am open to just about anything but I think because of my history he just doesn't bring anything up, I was initially shy just because it was a new situation for me and maybe that shyness turned him off me. We also have a small child who requires a lot of attention and care often I'm tired although I always make an effort to spend at least some time with my husband every day, but I dont think he see's me past the diapers and milk and crying :-). Sex and intimacy has been lacking in our relationship for so long now that it almost feels useless bringing it up and I miss it I really do. I dont know how to change things around because to be honest I have no experience of anything like this. I dont know if my husband just isn't attracted to me or is out of love with me. The news media have covered the relationship in the past, but there have been no mentions since 2005, according to Nexis and despite the collapse of Fannie Mae. The July 3, 1998, Reliable Source column in The Washington Post reported Frank, who is openly gay, had a relationship with Herb Moses, an executive for the now-government controlled Fannie Mae. The column revealed the two had split up at the time but also said Frank was referring to Moses as his “spouse.” Another Washington Post report said Frank called Moses his “lover” and that the two were “still friends” after the breakup.
Frank was and remains a stalwart defender of Fannie Mae, which is now under FBI investigation along with its sister organization Freddie Mac, American International Group Inc. (NYSE:AIG) and Lehman Brothers (NYSE:LEH) – all recently participants in government bailouts. But Frank has derailed efforts to regulate the institution, as well as denying it posed any financial risk. Frank’s office has been unresponsive to efforts by the Business & Media Institute to comment on these potential conflicts of interest.
While the relationship reportedly ended 10 years ago, Frank was serving on the House Banking Committee the entire 10 years they were together. The committee is the primary House body which along with the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) has jurisdiction over the government-sponsored enterprises.
He has served on the committee since becoming a congressman in 1981 and became the ranking Democrat on the committee in 2003. He became chairman of the committee, now called the House Financial Services Committee, in 2007.
Moses was the assistant director for product initiatives at Fannie Mae and had been at the forefront of relaxing lending restrictions at the company for rural customers, according to the Feb. 23, 1998, issue of National Mortgage News (NMN).
“Herb Moses, who helped develop many of Fannie Mae’s affordable housing and home improvement lending programs, has left the mortgage industry,” Darryl Hicks wrote for NMN. “Mr. Moses - whose last day was Feb. 13 - spent the past seven years at Fannie Mae, most recently as director of housing initiatives. Over the course of time, he played an instrumental role in developing the company’s Title One and 203(k) home improvement lending programs.”

BusinessWeek reported in its Nov. 14, 1994, issue that Fannie Mae called on Frank to exert his influence against a Housing & Urban Development proposal that would force the GSE to focus on minority and low-income buyers and police bias by lenders regardless of their location. Fannie Mae opposed HUD on the issue because it claimed doing so would “ignore the urban middle class.”
Moses left Fannie in 1998 to start his own pottery business. National Mortgage News called Moses a “mortgage guru” and said he developed “many of Fannie Mae's affordable housing and home improvement lending programs. Moses ended his relationship with Frank just months after he left Fannie.

Sorry, just another addition here. Low income/no income students are given education by way of Austudy and HECS here in Australia. Granted it wont get you into a high profile private school, however it does get you an education with which you can do with what you choose. Also the initiative offers financial support to those who choose to further their education.

I don't have any desire to start over with you yet John. It's taken a toll on me and my emotions big time. I waited and waited for all this shit. I told you I was unhappy and things continued. I have to do some research (homework) on ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption) and I need some information on a matter where it has become involved on its own initiative.
I am a 17 year old girl. I weigh 140pounds, and my height is 5feet & 6.5inches. Recently I have gained 10 pounds due to extreme changes in my life. My body has been readjusting for the past two months after I finally stopped taking medication for my ADHD. I have took the initiative to exercise at least 3 times a week. For my exercise, I go to 1 hour long Kung fu / fitness sessions. We do lots of cardio, mixed with muscle building. I take a one day break after each session so my body can heal. At this moment, every single muscle in my body feels bruised when I touch, or move them. Does this mean I did a good work out yesterday? If I continue like this, do you think I will lose weight?
I've had the game Blue Dragon for a while, but I've never really had the initiative to play it until now. I've been getting really involved in it and going through it pretty fast. After countless hours I finally got to disc three. I go to insert it into my disc trey and to my demise there's a dime sized hole in it like I've never seen before! The hole is real precise too, almost like a laser cut straight through it (there are no burn marks though, if any would be created by such an action).
How could this have happened? I've never inserted disc three into my Xbox 360, let alone played the game before until now. I also take really good care of my game discs so I know I didn't cause this (wouldn't even know how to without a laser). I also bought it brand new, it wasn't used.
Also, what can I do about this? I don't really want to have to re-buy the game, but I've had it sitting around for so long that I doubt any warranty I had remains.

This guy and I started talking online a lot. We would stay up until 3am sometimes chatting and webcamming, and we talked on avg probably around 5 hours EVERY day. although he never told me he liked me, he would say things like "i like your smile", "you should put your hair down because i like it that way", "come visit me and cook me a homemade meal" etc, and he was always eager to hang out, making me promise to watch scary movies with him etc. We would call each other and leave each other voicemails almost daily also. So, I started liking him and i thought he was being quite obvious that he liked me also. However, one day he brought up the subject of how we seem to do things normal friends wouldn't do. He then said that he liked me, but maybe we should just try to be normal friends. He then went on to say that we should stop webcamming/calling each other in order to be normal friends. This was definitely not what I was expecting...why did he lead me on so much? I tried to ask him why he just wanted to be friends if he liked me, but didn't really get much out of him except that he wanted to "preserve our friendship". All this time, he was the one taking initiative and leading me on..I wasn't even the initiator! And now he does this to me..and when I asked him why he led me on, he said he didn't realize it. There's this guy who works in a shop that I visit on behalf of my Dad sometimes, I've been going there for like 7 years now and I've always liked the guy who works there. I only go like once a year but I always see this guy when I go.

For my PSC 349 class, I have to write a research paper that is backed up with data from SPSS. I came up with the following research question:
What effect to ballot initiatives have on voter turnout?
My professor OK'd the question, but he told me to come see him to discuss how I would set up my research design, because that will affect how I state my hypotheses. I went to his office hours, but he was talking so fast and was in a rush. He told me that I need to control for affluence, and that I should have the states and the number of ballot initiatives in my data set (because I'll have to come up with my own -- there isn't one readily available in SPSS). I'm still confused about how I should set it up, though, and my professor has cancelled all of his office hours this week due to a family emergency.
For part I of the paper, I have to conduct a Literature Review on the subject. I'm in the process of doing that now, and that's coming along fine. I just need help formulating my research design and how I should actually state my hypotheses. Does anyone have any ideas? From the preliminary Lit Review research I've done this far, I plan to state that an increased number of ballot initiatives increases voter turnout. The only problem is that I need two hypotheses, or two causes (independent variables) for my topic (dependent variable).

When my boyfriend and I started dating and I somewhat put the moves on him first since he was 5 years younger and oh so shy. There were some bumps in the road at first, with girls trying to break us up, my best friends betraying me because I was going out with her best friend, my boyfriend and such. I said I love you first, and maybe a week later he said he loved me back. At first he said he didn't love me because he thought it was too soon and wanted to be sure. It was three months into the relationship. I have my own place, and so the 7 months that we have been together he has been staying with me, now we are moving out and he has nothing to offer into us moving in together except don't worry, I'll help you. Help me, what about me helping him. I opened up a savings account under our name and I put the majority of the money in there. I am the one who has more money to save buy furniture and he really has nothing to contribute except driving me around since I don't have a car. He is young, he is 23 and I am 27, is that a too big of a gap. I feel like I am taking the lead in the relationship and that does not make me feel sexy or special. He has no idea what he is doing and has a shit paying job, but that he loves, and goes to school part time. I already graduated. I love him so much but I feel like he's 5 steps behind me. I want someone to help me move forward not feel backward. I feel like I have been taking the initiative throughout the whole relationship. And when I try to explain this to him he cries and says he will soon get a good job and take care of me and he loves me so much and he knows he can't do it now but he wants to be able to provide for me and be the man that I want him to be. So.. recently I started seeing a guy, really accidentally. They live in the same graduate apartment complex as I do, and it just started with an invitation to watch a movie. After that, we just ended up hanging out alot and spending time together - our time together was intense and we would stay up talking in bed for hours until dawn. We also didn't have sex; he suffered a strange episode in March he hasn't revealed to me yet, and I've waited and been patient for him. At one point, I asked him if we were daitng and his response was anything but clear. He said he liked me, felt that we had something more intimate than anything he'd experienced in a long time, but that he wouldn't call it dating, per se. It was still a riddle. On the other hand, he stated he enjoyed spending every moment with me. He just didn't want a label -- they complicated things. He also hasn't introduced me to his friends, because he doesn't to formalise it. He doesn't want a cage. Nonetheless, he says he doesn't want to fuck it up and lose me... and that this fear may be making him compromise to compensate. What's strange is that.. he said if I felt that was too wishy-washy and I wanted something else, we should talk - not to end things but to work it out. This I did - I called him and I told him my worries, that I didn't want to wait indefinitely for a commitment. He reassured me that he wasn't a person incapable of commitment, and that e felt like an "asshole" for not introducing me to his friends but that he's in an environment where not everyone would be ok with his being gay. I'm not so sure how to interpret this... seeing as he has gone out to gay bars plenty of times. Surely some of his friends wouldn't mind.
In the end, I find that I'm always the one to call.. set up times to hang out.. that I'm constantly having to solicit his attention. If he likes me as much as he says he does and he doesn't want to fuck it up and lose me, I don't understand his behavior. I just would wish he initiated a bit more, gave me a call, didn't have me arrange everything. He's a musician, so he's a bit flakey and a self-described carpe diem person by nature. I don't know how much his .. nature.. and how much is his feelings.. and how much is me.
I kinda want to know how to navigate this, and if I can, reasonbly and not in a needy way, get him to understand that.... a.) I want him to show some initiative.. I want him to be proactive in getting to see me since I often feel like if I don't call, he won't... b.) I want him to start slowly introducing me to his friends - I told him it's ok for now, but not forever; and c.) that well.. when you're "dating" someone.. it's somewhat incumbent upon you to give them a call at least once a week or so.. or when they call, to ask about when they're free next. The past two phone conversations I had were brief and 'just checking-in convo's" I made, but... he never asked me when I was available. I had to ask him later online when he would be free.
I should note that he said in our conversation.. he didn't want to "bring it into the real world" i.e.: make it real for aforementioned reasons. He enjoys the escapism he feels with me, he says. My fear is that... this can't sustain itself on just that. At some point, for this to go anywhere, he has to integrate into his life. Currently, he's going to a halloween party on Saturday night. I haven't gotten an invitation... I'm thinking I will give him a month to see if he can show any signs of progressing....

I think Wonder Woman is real cool. I saw the animated film and I liked it a lot. Those Amazons didn't take any mess from anybody! They sure knew how to stand up for themselves physically and emotionally. I think in some ways this character really should show the courage that lots of women display on a daily basis as far as tackling the stuff they have to deal with including parenting and employment and just getting through each day. I wasn't turned off by the character at all. If anything it was very interesting to me in a lot of ways. The part when she beat up those thugs in the alley was awesome! It just showed Diana is not one to be messed with. She is more than capable of handling herself. Still, I think the courage and the initiative of the character to tackle issues head on will probably be more memorable to some people than the physical strength because not everyone has the conditioning to lift a car or a couch, but everyone has the capability to show courage and compassion for others and respect for themselves and stand up for themselves when things go wrong. I don't think the cartoon diminished men socially at all, rather it helped them to have a different appreciation for females as people and human beings and I think encouraged getting to understand people personally and hearing what they have to say rather than making assumptions.

At 14 I was barely aware of 'careers', 'jobs' and 'professions'. But apparently the powers that be think it is a worth-wile initiative.
Can seven year olds be successfully guided into careers they may or may not pursue 9-14 years later on in life? Or is it a constructive introduction to the working world?
Palindromic - my concern I suppose is the fact that kids are already overburdened with exams - should we really be giving 'careers advice'? As someone else says, the basics of the working environment might be helpful, but not 'guidance'.

i have been dating this gy for a few months now. Its still casual.I noticed that he really doesn't take initiative, like he asks me before he does alot of things. For ex. Ok i already know this is going to be long so bear with me people, please it's important.
Ok so I guess i "used" to have this best friend Chase, we got into fights and didn't talk for a while. then we would talk and then we wouldn't. it just went like taht all throughout high school. (were juniors now) and now all of a sudden this year he just completely ignores me and never comes around. i heard from two of my friends that its because I change friends constantly and that I don't care about anyone unless they're my friend now. which isn't true. i've had friends all throughout middle school, heck elementary school! and I admit I have lost 2 special friends and some not sooo special friendships recently. (the first because she started being a bitch to me, the second because of guy issues, she hated the guy i was with, i broke up with him, things never got better) anyways Idk I'm just kinda really angry at him for letting me out in the cold and having my two friends tell me and him not have the guts to tell me. Yes I admit at the begining of the year I was caught up and didn't talk to him much because I was making new friendships wih three other people. But I still stayed where I was, I'm still friends with the people I was friends with last year, except for him and my three new ones.

I have been married a short time and it seems to me like sex and intimacy are completely non-existant for me and my husband and I dont know how to fix it. The reasons behind it may vary and may not be a I think. Its easy to say just seduce your husband or get over it but its not quite so easily done. The circumstances are........before I was with my husband I was completely innocent, I'd never been sexually involved with anyone. My husband and I were sexually active before we married. He had vast experience and is older than me and for a number of years had been using internet sex, porn, random sex as a release but saw it as nothing more than sex.......I believe for my husband there is not an emotional connection during sex because for so long sex has just been about busting a nut. I dont believe he can differentiate between loving sex and sex for sex's sake. He has mentioned before there's some things you just dont do with your wife which I think is rubbish if there's anyone you should be doing it with it's your wife!!. As a married woman theres so many things I haven't experienced that I wish I had, so many times I wish I could just say *&!% it and take the initiative but I dont. I have never spent a day in bed with my husband or woke up naked with him or been kissed properly for no reason or had any type of romance. By romance I dont mean things or flowers or any of that stuff because things like that dont fuss me terribly but it'd be nice to be complimented or feel loved or get suprised anything really....it doesn't happen. I believe I am to blame as well when we met I hadn't been with anyone and had no experience, that does not mean I am a prude, I am open to just about anything but I think because of my history he just doesn't bring anything up, I was initially shy just because it was a new situation for me and maybe that shyness turned him off me. The news media have covered the relationship in the past, but there have been no mentions since 2005, according to Nexis and despite the collapse of Fannie Mae. The July 3, 1998, Reliable Source column in The Washington Post reported Frank, who is openly gay, had a relationship with Herb Moses, an executive for the now-government controlled Fannie Mae. The column revealed the two had split up at the time but also said Frank was referring to Moses as his “spouse.” Another Washington Post report said Frank called Moses his “lover” and that the two were “still friends” after the breakup.
Frank was and remains a stalwart defender of Fannie Mae, which is now under FBI investigation along with its sister organization Freddie Mac, American International Group Inc. (NYSE:AIG) and Lehman Brothers (NYSE:LEH) – all recently participants in government bailouts. But Frank has derailed efforts to regulate the institution, as well as denying it posed any financial risk. Frank’s office has been unresponsive to efforts by the Business & Media Institute to comment on these potential conflicts of interest.
While the relationship reportedly ended 10 years ago, Frank was serving on the House Banking Committee the entire 10 years they were together. The committee is the primary House body which along with the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) has jurisdiction over the government-sponsored enterprises.
He has served on the committee since becoming a congressman in 1981 and became the ranking Democrat on the committee in 2003. He became chairman of the committee, now called the House Financial Services Committee, in 2007.
Moses was the assistant director for product initiatives at Fannie Mae and had been at the forefront of relaxing lending restrictions at the company for rural customers, according to the Feb. 23, 1998, issue of National Mortgage News (NMN).
“Herb Moses, who helped develop many of Fannie Mae’s affordable housing and home improvement lending programs, has left the mortgage industry,” Darryl Hicks wrote for NMN. “Mr. Moses - whose last day was Feb. 13 - spent the past seven years at Fannie Mae, most recently as director of housing initiatives. Over the course of time, he played an instrumental role in developing the company’s Title One and 203(k) home improvement lending programs.”
Hicks explained in his story how Moses orchestrated a collaborative effort between Fannie Mae and the Department of Agriculture.
“The Dartmouth grad also played a crucial role in brokering a relationship between Fannie Mae and the Department of Agriculture,” Hicks wrote. “This led to the creation of Fannie Mae’s rural housing program where the secondary marketing agency agreed to purchase small farm loans insured through the department.”
While Moses served at Fannie Mae and was Frank’s partner, Frank was actively working to support GSEs, according to several news outlets.
In 1991, Frank and former Rep. Joe Kennedy, D-Mass., lobbied for Fannie to soften rules on multi-family home mortgages although those dwellings showed a default rate twice that of single-family homes, according to the Nov. 22, 1991, Boston Globe.
BusinessWeek reported in its Nov. 14, 1994, issue that Fannie Mae called on Frank to exert his influence against a Housing & Urban Development proposal that would force the GSE to focus on minority and low-income buyers and police bias by lenders regardless of their location. Fannie Mae opposed HUD on the issue because it claimed doing so would “ignore the urban middle class.”
Moses left Fannie in 1998 to start his own pottery business. National Mortgage News called Moses a “mortgage guru” and said he developed “many of Fannie Mae's affordable housing and home improvement lending programs. Moses ended his relationship with Frank just months after he left Fannie.
Even after the relationship ended, however, Frank was a staunch defender of Fannie Mae even as other experts suggested there were serious problems building in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Sorry, just another addition here. Low income/no income students are given education by way of Austudy and HECS here in Australia. Granted it wont get you into a high profile private school, however it does get you an education with which you can do with what you choose. Also the initiative offers financial support to those who choose to further their education.

I have to do some research (homework) on ICAC (Independent Commission Against Corruption) and I need some information on a matter where it has become involved on its own initiative.
I am a 17 year old girl. I weigh 140pounds, and my height is 5feet & 6.5inches. Recently I have gained 10 pounds due to extreme changes in my life. My body has been readjusting for the past two months after I finally stopped taking medication for my ADHD. I have took the initiative to exercise at least 3 times a week. For my exercise, I go to 1 hour long Kung fu / fitness sessions. We do lots of cardio, mixed with muscle building. I take a one day break after each session so my body can heal. At this moment, every single muscle in my body feels bruised when I touch, or move them. Does this mean I did a good work out yesterday? If I continue like this, do you think I will lose weight?
I've had the game Blue Dragon for a while, but I've never really had the initiative to play it until now. I've been getting really involved in it and going through it pretty fast. After countless hours I finally got to disc three. I go to insert it into my disc trey and to my demise there's a dime sized hole in it like I've never seen before! The hole is real precise too, almost like a laser cut straight through it (there are no burn marks though, if any would be created by such an action).
How could this have happened? I've never inserted disc three into my Xbox 360, let alone played the game before until now. I also take really good care of my game discs so I know I didn't cause this (wouldn't even know how to without a laser). I also bought it brand new, it wasn't used.
Also, what can I do about this? I don't really want to have to re-buy the game, but I've had it sitting around for so long that I doubt any warranty I had remains.

This guy and I started talking online a lot. We would stay up until 3am sometimes chatting and webcamming, and we talked on avg probably around 5 hours EVERY day. although he never told me he liked me, he would say things like "i like your smile", "you should put your hair down because i like it that way", "come visit me and cook me a homemade meal" etc, and he was always eager to hang out, making me promise to watch scary movies with him etc. We would call each other and leave each other voicemails almost daily also. So, I started liking him and i thought he was being quite obvious that he liked me also. However, one day he brought up the subject of how we seem to do things normal friends wouldn't do. He then said that he liked me, but maybe we should just try to be normal friends. He then went on to say that we should stop webcamming/calling each other in order to be normal friends. This was definitely not what I was expecting...why did he lead me on so much? I tried to ask him why he just wanted to be friends if he liked me, but didn't really get much out of him except that he wanted to "preserve our friendship". All this time, he was the one taking initiative and leading me on..I wasn't even the initiator! And now he does this to me..and when I asked him why he led me on, he said he didn't realize it. There's this guy who works in a shop that I visit on behalf of my Dad sometimes, I've been going there for like 7 years now and I've always liked the guy who works there. I only go like once a year but I always see this guy when I go.

For my PSC 349 class, I have to write a research paper that is backed up with data from SPSS. I came up with the following research question:
What effect to ballot initiatives have on voter turnout?
My professor OK'd the question, but he told me to come see him to discuss how I would set up my research design, because that will affect how I state my hypotheses. I went to his office hours, but he was talking so fast and was in a rush. He told me that I need to control for affluence, and that I should have the states and the number of ballot initiatives in my data set (because I'll have to come up with my own -- there isn't one readily available in SPSS). I'm still confused about how I should set it up, though, and my professor has cancelled all of his office hours this week due to a family emergency.
For part I of the paper, I have to conduct a Literature Review on the subject. I'm in the process of doing that now, and that's coming along fine. I just need help formulating my research design and how I should actually state my hypotheses. Does anyone have any ideas? From the preliminary Lit Review research I've done this far, I plan to state that an increased number of ballot initiatives increases voter turnout. The only problem is that I need two hypotheses, or two causes (independent variables) for my topic (dependent variable).

When my boyfriend and I started dating and I somewhat put the moves on him first since he was 5 years younger and oh so shy. There were some bumps in the road at first, with girls trying to break us up, my best friends betraying me because I was going out with her best friend, my boyfriend and such. I said I love you first, and maybe a week later he said he loved me back. At first he said he didn't love me because he thought it was too soon and wanted to be sure. It was three months into the relationship. I have my own place, and so the 7 months that we have been together he has been staying with me, now we are moving out and he has nothing to offer into us moving in together except don't worry, I'll help you. Help me, what about me helping him. I opened up a savings account under our name and I put the majority of the money in there. I am the one who has more money to save buy furniture and he really has nothing to contribute except driving me around since I don't have a car. He is young, he is 23 and I am 27, is that a too big of a gap. I feel like I am taking the lead in the relationship and that does not make me feel sexy or special. He has no idea what he is doing and has a shit paying job, but that he loves, and goes to school part time. I already graduated. I love him so much but I feel like he's 5 steps behind me. So.. recently I started seeing a guy, really accidentally. They live in the same graduate apartment complex as I do, and it just started with an invitation to watch a movie. After that, we just ended up hanging out alot and spending time together - our time together was intense and we would stay up talking in bed for hours until dawn. We also didn't have sex; he suffered a strange episode in March he hasn't revealed to me yet, and I've waited and been patient for him. At one point, I asked him if we were daitng and his response was anything but clear. He said he liked me, felt that we had something more intimate than anything he'd experienced in a long time, but that he wouldn't call it dating, per se. It was still a riddle. On the other hand, he stated he enjoyed spending every moment with me. He just didn't want a label -- they complicated things. He also hasn't introduced me to his friends, because he doesn't to formalise it. He doesn't want a cage. Nonetheless, he says he doesn't want to fuck it up and lose me... and that this fear may be making him compromise to compensate. What's strange is that.. he said if I felt that was too wishy-washy and I wanted something else, we should talk - not to end things but to work it out. This I did - I called him and I told him my worries, that I didn't want to wait indefinitely for a commitment. He reassured me that he wasn't a person incapable of commitment, and that e felt like an "asshole" for not introducing me to his friends but that he's in an environment where not everyone would be ok with his being gay. I'm not so sure how to interpret this... seeing as he has gone out to gay bars plenty of times. Surely some of his friends wouldn't mind.
In the end, I find that I'm always the one to call.. set up times to hang out.. that I'm constantly having to solicit his attention. If he likes me as much as he says he does and he doesn't want to fuck it up and lose me, I don't understand his behavior. I just would wish he initiated a bit more, gave me a call, didn't have me arrange everything. He's a musician, so he's a bit flakey and a self-described carpe diem person by nature. I don't know how much his .. nature.. and how much is his feelings.. and how much is me.
I kinda want to know how to navigate this, and if I can, reasonbly and not in a needy way, get him to understand that.... a.) I want him to show some initiative.. I want him to be proactive in getting to see me since I often feel like if I don't call, he won't... b.) I want him to start slowly introducing me to his friends - I told him it's ok for now, but not forever; and c.) that well.. when you're "dating" someone.. it's somewhat incumbent upon you to give them a call at least once a week or so.. or when they call, to ask about when they're free next. The past two phone conversations I had were brief and 'just checking-in convo's" I made, but... he never asked me when I was available. I had to ask him later online when he would be free.
I should note that he said in our conversation.. he didn't want to "bring it into the real world" i.e.: make it real for aforementioned reasons. He enjoys the escapism he feels with me, he says. My fear is that... this can't sustain itself on just that. At some point, for this to go anywhere, he has to integrate into his life. Currently, he's going to a halloween party on Saturday night. I haven't gotten an invitation... I'm thinking I will give him a month to see if he can show any signs of progressing....

Here's the question: Should people on welfare have to pay back the money a little at a time when they get a real job? Shouldn't it be just a loan.I know a few that used welfare for 5 plus years. The disadvantaged are extremely inconvenient and expensive, and in this economic climate, we probably can no longer afford such a luxury. Surley, killing the disadvantaged would dramatically ease tax burdens and that would undoubtedly stimulate the economy and create new jobs. Forcing humans into idle deprivation then making them pay back the expense of their minimal survival sounds nowhere near punitive enough to me and if we are truly serious about productivity then we will kill the unproductive to stimulate proper self-initiative.

1) Isn't parody an obvious form of criticism of that which it imitates and therefore something other than the thing it imitates, such as 'hate speech & violence'?
2) Why would any self-respecting conservative indulging in stereotypical latently violent hatred of the unfortunate and vulnerable object to hate & violence anyway? Isn't my response precisely the kind of reinforcing encouragement the latently violent and hateful conservative seeks with such a question?
3) Who is so literal that they fail to recognize such obvious parody?
The incident happened when Randy Orton hit Cena with a microphone and started Vince McMahon ordered Cena to be cleaned up immediately after seeing the blood. WWE’s John Laurinaitis along with trainers rushed to ringside to clean him up, as WWE currently has a very strict “no blood” policy as part of their TV-PG programming initiative.

I think Wonder Woman is real cool. I saw the animated film and I liked it a lot. Those Amazons didn't take any mess from anybody! They sure knew how to stand up for themselves physically and emotionally. I think in some ways this character really should show the courage that lots of women display on a daily basis as far as tackling the stuff they have to deal with including parenting and employment and just getting through each day. I wasn't turned off by the character at all. If anything it was very interesting to me in a lot of ways. The part when she beat up those thugs in the alley was awesome! It just showed Diana is not one to be messed with. She is more than capable of handling herself. Still, I think the courage and the initiative of the character to tackle issues head on will probably be more memorable to some people than the physical strength because not everyone has the conditioning to lift a car or a couch, but everyone has the capability to show courage and compassion for others and respect for themselves and stand up for themselves when things go wrong. I don't think the cartoon diminished men socially at all, rather it helped them to have a different appreciation for females as people and human beings and I think encouraged getting to understand people personally and hearing what they have to say rather than making assumptions.

Are seven year olds capable of grasping the ideas?
At 14 I was barely aware of 'careers', 'jobs' and 'professions'. But apparently the powers that be think it is a worth-wile initiative.
Can seven year olds be successfully guided into careers they may or may not pursue 9-14 years later on in life? Or is it a constructive introduction to the working world?
Palindromic - my concern I suppose is the fact that kids are already overburdened with exams - should we really be giving 'careers advice'? As someone else says, the basics of the working environment might be helpful, but not 'guidance'.
Would a federal government initiative that provides voters with lower income taxes and grocery coupons get the American public to vote more in non-presidential elections?
(In addition to local politicians talking to the people more often?)

Is it good or bad for students? Why? And are they already active?
i have been dating this gy for a few months now. Its still casual.I noticed that he really doesn't take initiative, like he asks me before he does alot of things. For ex. The last time i was at his house when i got ready to leave he asked me if he could get a peck or something, and i gave him a kiss. It was our first kiss. If i go over his house he always ask what i wanna do. One time i was at his house and he asked what i wanna do and i said lets see a movie and he asked like twice, if i was sure i wanted to see the movie, even after he already ordered the tickets online.and even when he wants to see me he wants to make sure i really want to come. He told me he liked aggressive women. Is it just that he wants me to be happy or what? He told me on our first date that he would do whatever i want
Ok i already know this is going to be long so bear with me people, please it's important.
Ok so I guess i "used" to have this best friend Chase, we got into fights and didn't talk for a while. then we would talk and then we wouldn't. it just went like taht all throughout high school. (were juniors now) and now all of a sudden this year he just completely ignores me and never comes around. i heard from two of my friends that its because I change friends constantly and that I don't care about anyone unless they're my friend now. which isn't true. i've had friends all throughout middle school, heck elementary school! and I admit I have lost 2 special friends and some not sooo special friendships recently. (the first because she started being a bitch to me, the second because of guy issues, she hated the guy i was with, i broke up with him, things never got better) anyways Idk I'm just kinda really angry at him for letting me out in the cold and having my two friends tell me and him not have the guts to tell me. Yes I admit at the begining of the year I was caught up and didn't talk to him much because I was making new friendships wih three other people. But I still stayed where I was, I'm still friends with the people I was friends with last year, except for him and my three new ones.
UGH i'm just confused wether or not I should talk to him since it's been nearly 3 monthes since school started and he doesn't care about me anymore. He deleted me off his myspace and facebook. and I just don't wanna persue something that's a lost cause.
Everyone at my table is blaming me for him not around anymore. Is it my fault? But see another problem is that he's ignoring a friend of mine and he was the one that brought her to the table last year, and she's at least taking the initiative to talk to him, but he's not even really responding to her... should she talk to him too?
